Rashifal — Choose Your Horizon
What is a Rashi?
A Rashi (राशि) is one of the twelve sectors of the zodiac, each spanning 30° of the celestial sphere. In Vedic astrology, your “Rashi” almost always refers to the Janma Rashi — the sign occupied by the Moon at the moment of your birth. This differs from Western astrology, which uses the Sun's position.
The 12 Rashis are arranged in four elemental groups — Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) — and each is ruled by one of the seven classical planets, with Mars and Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn each ruling two signs, while the Sun and Moon each rule one.
Bhakti5 computes Rashi from the sidereal Moon longitude at birth, applying the Lahiri Ayanamsa (calibrated to the Indian Astronomical Ephemeris). All calculations run from astronomical first principles — no API lookups.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Rashi and zodiac sign?
The Vedic Rashi is based on the sidereal zodiac, fixed against the stars. The Western zodiac sign is based on the tropical zodiac, fixed to the equinoxes. Because of precession, the two systems currently differ by roughly 24 degrees, so your Vedic Rashi is often one sign earlier than your Western Sun sign.
Should I use my Sun sign or my Moon sign?
In Vedic astrology, the Janma Rashi (Moon sign) is considered the primary indicator of personality and life events because the Moon governs the mind. Daily rashifal predictions almost always use the Moon sign. Western astrology, by contrast, uses the Sun sign.
How is Rashi calculated?
Rashi is calculated by determining the sidereal longitude of the Moon at the exact moment of birth. The 360-degree zodiac is divided into 12 equal Rashis of 30 degrees each, starting from Mesha (Aries). Bhakti5 uses the astronomy-engine library with Lahiri Ayanamsa correction.
Why does my Rashi differ from a Western horoscope?
Western horoscopes use the tropical zodiac and the Sun sign. Vedic horoscopes use the sidereal zodiac and the Moon sign. The two will only rarely agree.
